Medical imaging, Thermograpy:
What are experts saying?
It has been found that thermography images can detect the areas of lymphatic congestion to better assist in the treatment of Lymphatic Drainage.
More specifically the discussion revolves around issues related to breast health and the use of mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and thermography (digital infrared imaging). Women with inflammation or congestion of lymph nodes or inflammation of soft tissue areas may be asked by their doctor to get some form of medical imaging or they may be interested in having more information for personal peace of mind.
We have found thermography to be a low cost, non invasive tool that provides informative reports that are helpful for lymphatic therapy sessions and for post therapy follow-up scans.
What other health conditions can Thermography benefit?
This method is useful for visualizing pain and pathology, it can detects and monitors other conditions, diseases and injuries:

What is Thermography and how can it benefit me?
Thermography is an FDA approved non-invasive screening procedure which uses a specialized camera to take pictures of your infrared image from any part of the body. Thermography is a radiation-free state-of- the-art screening procedure that captures heat images of the breast and the rest of the body. The thermal imaging procedure is used for detecting and monitoring a number of disease and physical injuries, by showing the heat as abnormalities found in the body and in some cases without symptoms. It is non-invasive, pain free and there's not contact, radiation or compression to the body.
It is a valuable tool that we consider that every physician or healthcare practitioner would find helpful when evaluating the health of an individual.
How can Thermography benefit the breast?
The benefit of breast thermography is that it offers the advantage of earlier detection of breast disease than has been possible through breast self examination, doctor examination or mammography alone.
With the recent advancements in technology it is considered that the results are even more accurate than exams. Studies have been performed on thermography when compared against other forms of testing. A 2008 study published in the American Journal of Surgery, performed at New York Presbyterian Hospital Cornell showed a 97% sensitivity in discriminating cancer compared to biopsy. These results showed thermography to accurately identify 97% (58 of 60) of cancers when compared to mammography. Obesity and large breasts were a limiting factor.
Here at Margie's Wellness Center, we take a more natural approach toward your present and future health. According the the www.cancer.gov mammography misses up to 20% of tumors overall, and is ineffective statistically in women with dense breasts. Breast thermography can be used with women with dense breasts and women under 40 years of age. These procedures are completely safe because no radiation is used to acquire the images. Thermography is non-invasive and takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete, requires no physical contact or fluids to drink, and the vascular patterns seen are compared to standards set by BTI. Thermography of the breast can detect abnormalities from 8-10 years before mammography can detect a mass.
Women across South Florida can benefit from DITI breast screening. However, it is especially appropriate for younger women (30-50) whose denser breast tissue makes it more difficult for mammography to be effective. Also for women of all ages who may have breast implants or for many other reasons, are unable to undergo routine mammography. This test can provide a “clinical marker” to the doctor or mammographer that a specific area of the breast needs particularly close examination.
What is the difference between Thermography and Mammography?
It is FREE of Radiation, and there's no Compression involved!
Most women can benefit from Thermography. It is recommended for younger women and women with denser breast tissue where mammography is not as reliable. The imaging can detect abnormalities outside the borders of the breast and at the chest wall
